A community budget meeting is scheduled, for 6 p.m. Aug. 25, at Tracy’s Grill in Long Beach.

Aug. 30
Health in the Park
Health In the Park will take place, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 30, at MacArthur Park in Long Beach.
The event will offer free health screenings and informational sessions. The screenings include Hepatitis B and C. The informational sessions include health education, prevention awareness, wellness promotion, and the latest information about treatments. There will also be access to health care with enrollment in health insurance and other programs, as well as referrals to community resources including yoga and meditation. Most importantly, attendees will have an opportunity for an in-person health chats with doctors and other health professionals. There will also be entertainment for the children.

Budget Oversight Committee
Council members are deliberating facts, figures and projections associated with Long Beach’s fiscal year 2015 budget.
Residents are encouraged to view budget recommendations and related reports before attending Budget Oversight Committee meetings or Budget Hearings.

Sept. 4
Low Vision Center Offers Access to Free Telephones
The Low Vision Center at St. Mary Medical Center will host topical lectures in September and provide access to free specialized telephones, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Sept. 4.
The Low Vision Center provides free services to the Southern California community and helps children and adults enhance their vision to its fullest potential. The Center has a variety of helpful household tools in store and assists people with low vision achieve their independence.
California Telephone Access Program – offers a range of free, specialized phones that are easier to hear, easier to dial, and easier to use. These free telephones and devices will turn up the volume, allow hands-free operation, flash incoming calls, display conversation in text, and recall numbers.  All phones are provided free to California residents who have an existing residential phone service.  Please call early for an application, which must be filled out by your primary health care physician prior to the class. Friends and family are welcome. Check in time is at 9:30 a.m.

Transgender Ally Training
Participate in the next Transgender Ally Training, from 7 to 9 p.m. Sept. 5, at The Center Long Beach.
The training incorporates curriculum, developed by youth from The Center’s Mentoring Youth Through Empowerment Program.

2014 Long Beach AIDS Ride Kick-off Party
A kick-off party for the 2014 Long Beach AIDS Ride will take place, from 3 to 6 p.m. Sept. 7, at Alfredo’s Beach Club in Long Beach.
Meet the 2013 riders and event staff to ask questions and learn about this year’s ride.
The Long Beach AIDS Ride is a fundraising event produced by, and benefitting The Center Long Beach and The Comprehensive AIDS Resource and Education program at St. Mary Medical Center.
